From the Garden of Eden to Abbey Road and Silicon Valley, apples have been an
enduring motif for our cultural journey.

Like William Tell and Sir Isaac Newton before him, Ashley Smith, in this show, uses apples
to his own ends.

Some samples from this tasty crop may very well keep the doctor away - but, then again,
there could be something decidedly sinister under the skin of that rosy red apple being offered.

An Apple a Day...

A vintage treatment.
The shadowed, idyllic foreground
is a nod to Maxfield Parrish
and his odd 1900's stuff.

I must be mellowing. It's not
a poisoned apple just one laced with
anaesthetic that the PM is offering.
They help the voters forget
that the orchard is blighted.

As well as the apple thing,
this was a bit of a tribute piece

Forbidden Fruit

This was going to be dead simple -
a little bloke under a tree - but it ran
away from me and wound up like the
King of Siam's sunroom cushion.
Good though.
